New York City’s AEDT law goes into effect on April 15, 2023. Is your organization ready? Onboard Audit provides everything you need to comply, quickly and affordably.
NYC AEDT Law
New York City’s Automated Employment Decision Tools (AEDT) law, known formally as Local Law 144, is intended to encourage transparency in how organizations use artificial intelligence (AI) in the hiring process. The law defines an AEDT as “derived from machine learning, statistical modeling, data analytics, or artificial intelligence, that issues simplified output, including a score, classification, or recommendation, that is used to substantially assist or replace discretionary decision making.”
To be considered an independent auditor for the NYC law, an entity must be objective and impartial, must not have been involved in the development of the AEDT, must not have an employment relationship with a firm that develops or uses the AEDT, and must not have financial interest in a firm that develops or uses an AEDT. Onboard Audit satisfies these criteria.
The rules also state that an AEDT cannot be used if more than one year has passed since the most recent bias audit.
